Our early history

The history of the King's church is a long and exciting one, full of stories of faith and God's goodness.

Listed below are some of the main milestones in the early foundation of the church.

How the Kings Church was founded

1977 Hugh Clark arrives at Coatbridge to pastor a very small congregation of believers with a building debt of £11,000.

1979 Congregation becomes Coatbridge Christian Fellowship and grows on the principles of our 3-fold ministry : to the Lord, to one another and to the world. The debt is cleared. faith is enlarged.

1981 Moving in the wave of charismatic renewal, the church becomes a non-denominational body under the banner New Covenant Christian Fellowship. People are continually added. One hundred and fifty in congregation. Start of the 'nomadic' period - without a building the church is to use 23 different meeting places over the next five years, using mainly Coatbridge High School. Our regional strategy, Strathclyde for Jesus is birthed.

1982 God provides Centre Point to be used for the Coatbridge congregation. Growth continues, leadership training a high priority. Our 'life in the spirit' series of evangelistic thrusts commences.

1983 God miraculously provides New Life Centre for £100. Formerly a disused Church of Scotland building. This becomes home to our Motherwell congregation. The full time staff is added to and we begin to lay foundations in faith for a church of 1000 members. Our emphasis for 1983 being "establish and extend".

1984 God speaks and the search for a new building to accommodate the whole church commences. Over the whole period 16 different locations are viewed. In faith we declare "let there be a central building". The influence of the church enlarges. visitors such as Colin Urquhart, Arthur walls, Gerald Coates and Charles Simpson pass through and share their ministry. The emphasis for this year is "declare and disciple".

1985 God miraculously opens up the way for the purchase of the Airbles Road site. The central building is named 'The King's centre' and the church is re-named "the King's Church". Miracle after miracle follows the progress of church and centre. Our emphasis for the year is "faith working by love".

1986 This year the Holy Spirit's directive is "experiencing the Power of Prayer" and the expectation is for a release of apostolic evangelism which will persuade thousands in our land to accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour and serve him within the fellowship of His church.

19th April 1986 - The King's Centre officially opens
